I read this book to my children, and they absolutely loved it so much that, being a paperback, I had to replace it several times because it simply wore out. Then, as parents, they began to talk at a family gathering, about the characters in the book, and how they loved it. I looked through my library of children's books, and my copy was in a sorry state. Expecting my first local grandchild, I replenished my stock. That first baby is now a married 22 year old who is studying to be a Rabbi! He loves children, and loves to read this book to his younger siblings (with 7 siblings, the youngest is 5). The book got worn out again. Now, with 4 great-grandchildren, I have purchased this latest copy and I find that my grown grandchildren love to hear me read it to the younger grandchildren also. I'm waiting for the day when the newest great-grandchild is old enough to listen to the funny story, and see the great pictures, and appreciate the funny names in the book. Of course, the children need to talk afterwards to be informed that the events in it really can't happen, but that's a small price, and I think they already know that it's not real, and the events cannot happen. I highly recommend this book to parents, grandparents, and great-grandparents. As you can see, it's well-remembered, and talked about for many, many years.

We loved the book when my children were small. My son purchased it at the Scholastic Book Fair at his school in the 80's. We read it over and over and over again to the point that it was in shreds. So I had to purchase another one for my grandchildren. When it arrived my son (their father) was so pleased to see it that he had to read it immediately to the children who were delighted by the tale . This is funny and amazingly simple and the illustrations are colorful and sweet. A great book to teach reading skills to the very young. SWEET.

I love this book. Had it as a child, some 40 years ago, and thought I'd find it some day. Well, I never did until I looked on Amazon.com. Actually, I found it on Amazon 4-5 years ago, but it was very expensive (like $30.00 or more, if I recall correctly). So, periodically I checked for lower prices and eventually it came down. The book is out of print, so it is rare. The seller got it to me very quickly, and even with a nice personal thank you note. The book was in great shape, and actually looked exactly and precisely like the one from my childhood. It was just what I wanted. And the story is great. I have always wanted to read it to my boys, which I did the day it arrived. Now, both of them are beyond the age of having Dad read to them, but they loved it. The story is a hoot. Slightly silly, slightly creepy, and lots of fun. Thanks Amazon.

My daughter loved this as a child and we literally wore the soft-covered book to a raggedly condition (although we still have it). Got this for my 4-year old granddaughter with the expectation that she will get a similar enjoyment from it. The book arrived ahead of schedule from the Grumpy Gargoyle. This was a new, not a used copy. Very happy with this order.

this was one of my favorite books when I was little. The only reason why when I was prompted with the question is there violence I said some violence, because the cats walks along and eats all of the people, and the they cut everyone out of him at the end. As an adult it seems a little violent, but as a child I didn't notice. It is mild and quite humorous compared to the violence kids are used to with video games these days. I really love this book!!!

I used to read this to my daughter when she was little and now she's going to be a mom, so I had to get it for her! Although she couldn't read (at 2, of course) she would memorize the pictures on the pages and the names and storyline and repeat . . . Skohatentat and Skolinkenlot . . . and we were amazed.

The character names alone are worth buying this book for. My children immensely enjoy as I stumble over the pages trying to get the names correct as the cat gets fatter and fatter.

Especially fun for my granddaughtr to listen to over the years, and now to read. I gave her my copy when she moved away, and wanted one here for myself for old times sake. Love the rhyming for a child learning to read, and the silliness of the story where the characters emerge unscathed at the end. Thre must be a hidden story here, but I haven't found it, just enjoy this old Danish tale without any moral hunting. It is fun.
